Albatross History-6-1979 Disappointed girl Marianne Green ; ousted out by older girls due to International Age Group change the night before.
Albatross History-6-1979. Mariannes Stuttgard chance snatched away
Albatross History-6-1979 All good things intermingle with disappointments. Self and Marianne Green 11 had attended the summer school of Diving for a week at Crystal Palace to help her prepare for selection to dive in Stuttgart Germany, representing England in an International Age group Competition. She had qualified for her age group in the trials, winning 1 metre plus a third place on 3 metre springboards. The day before selection the International Age group system had changed to include another older year. This caused more advanced girls allowed into Marianne’s Age Group and thus ousted her out, including her nearest rivals Lisa Brace of North Bedford and Alison McKinley of Beaumont Diving Academy.
However this didn’t deter helping a fifth year of carrying off titles at Southern Counties at Crystal Palace, Albatross divers were on form. This is the fifth year out of six that divers from Reading have carried off a Southern Counties title, and Albatross may well have had another success had Louise Taylor not pulled out of the Junior Highboard because of an injury.
