Albatross History 11 1980 Floodlight Swimming . Albatross’s 2nd Birthday Gala
Albatross History 11 1980. A Gala floodlit opening performance
Albatross had reached it’s second birthday after a wonderful year of experiences and travels, collecting awards; trophies and medals. The Club increased the number of divers, and Council Courses (held by an Albatross Coach) were helping much to trial many children for entry into the Club. They were then placed into appropriate squads.
The second Anniversary Gala was sponsored by the following:
Gibson & Piercy; Denton & Gibson – Builders & Scaffolders; Stan Eldon – Sports Equipment; L. Volkes – Roofers; Precision Aircraft. In addition there were a number of advertisers in the programme.
The Gala opened by the Albatross Display Team giving their usual spectacular performance to the sounds of the “Egg Race” with a floodlit swimming pool afore. Following, the youngsters of the Albatross Team floated a “Birthday Cake” with two candles – under the floodlight, depicting the second year gone by. Anyone lingering in the foyer would be sure to rush up the stairs to watch! Over 250 people filled the balcony.
At the end of the Gala young divers Fiona Pimm; Scarlett Cheer; Sarah Weaver and Juliet Green floated a large bouquet diagonally across the swimming pool under floodlight. The presentation was made to the Lady Mayoress. The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress Cllr Charles Sage and Cllr Mrs K Sage were our guests of honour, and between them, presented the Trophies. cont. next page…
