Albatross History 12 1980. Gala Great Egg Race and Blake’s Seven
Albatross 2nd Anniversary continued.
Attended by Reading’s Deputy Mayor and his Lady Mayoress Cllr Charles Sage and Cllr Kathleen Sage, they were accompanied by Chairman of the Sports Council; the Recreation Officer; and a Representative from Reading Royal Synchronised Swimming Club. Visitors included officials from London; Southend and Southampton. A packed balcony watched the spectacles of the evening which included a fine display from the Reading Royals Swimmers introducing beautiful rhythmic ballet in the water.
The divers completed their final rounds of competitions which had been saved from three weeks of club nights when the preliminary rounds had been undergone. The scores (secret) were carried forwards to the final rounds on Gala night. This has been the practise until the present day.
