Albatross History-6-1980. Girls jet off to Germany for a 6 country event
Louise Taylor and Marianne Green had the privilege of being chosen for some International experience. The choice was in view of their consistent performances at Southern Counties and National Age Group Level.
The six country event was held in Monheim with competitors from Cologne and Aachen. Plus divers from Holland; Switzerland; Yugoslavia, Brazil and of course England!
They were very excited and had trained hard leading up to this event.
They dived in very mixed weather in the open air – cold and raining. Between each dive they disappeared into the plant /filtration room to warm up. The sun occasionally came out in time for the rewards in the way of in the top 8 places in all of the events. Louise dived springboard, and the same for Marianne, plus highboard too. Overall all the competitions were aggregated and Marianne came 4th and Louise 5th.
Their dives were of high degree of difficulty from forward, backward, reverse, inward, and twist groups. There were a few gaping mouths when Marianne included a forward 1.5 somersault STRAIGHT from the 3 metre springboard. …and it was! Louise perfected her reverse and backward 1.5 somersaults scoring well. Since her injury last year, and her recovery period, she really has taken her diving very seriously.
Louise and Marianne were the official entrants, but as little Juliet was with us, she was allowed to dive in a very novice competition set up for the up and coming fledglings that happened to be present at the event. She topped the rostrum!
